2.2.10

This is our second update of the AirNow Haiti project. Before starting this effort, we first wanted to make sure we found a partner with an established network in the country, to avoid the waste that usually accompanies these massive relief efforts. We found two. Evangelistic World Outreach has been in Haiti for 36 years and operates an orphanage, school, health clinic, and cafeteria in Port au Prince.  Half of their complex was destroyed in the earthquake and they have gratefully received our donations of food, clothing and medical supplies. Our second partner, Agape Flights, has been getting great use out of our Bandit.

The plane, flown by John Somero, who is volunteering his time, has flown nearly 40 hours in Haiti relief flights since leaving Bennington. It makes stops in Port au Prince, Les Cayes and Cape Haitien. The missionaries being served meet the aircraft and provide security if supplies cannot be delivered immediately.

1.24.10

After the Haiti earthquake, the employees of AirNow wanted to do something to help. A small group began collecting supplies in response to a request from a missionary group. This effort quickly grew, and within a couple of days we had collected thousands of pounds of medical supplies, food, and clothing.

AirNow donated use of an aircraft for a month to fly supplies from south Florida to Haiti and within the island. Maintenance got the airplane ready and John Somero volunteered his time for a month to fly the airplane.

On Saturday a group of volunteers packed the aircraft and we left for Venice, FL, which is the headquarters of Agape Flights, a missionary support organization that has been flying into Haiti for 30 years.

The collection of supplies will continue through the end of January when they will be transported by sea container to the island. The airplane will remain in either Haiti or South Florida for at least a month.
